Well, I'm happy to learn I am 100% authentic. All this time I thought I was just weird. lol. Interesting that the authentic person these days is diagnosed as "on the spectrum:" "Not interested in conforming to pointless social rules? You must be CraZZyyY!"

But, it is a lonely place to be, and it took me a long time to understand that other people may not be authentic, and may not even have a "real" self to be authentic to. Other people also interpret my authenticity as some kind of lie or trick, often imputing motives to my behaviors that don't exist. Or not understanding what I'm saying. Very frustrating.

An example would be when my sister says, for the 20th time, that she "wants to visit sometime this summer." And I say "ok, that's great, just let me know when so I can plan because there's a lot going on in the summer." And she interprets that as "not wanting her to visit." I used to try to make a real effort to "act more excited" but then she still doesn't come to visit, because she doesn't ever plan anything, and I'm coming to suspect she just *says* she wants to visit because that's *what your supposed to say.* Needless to say, I've given up on all that as life is too short!

I find few qualities as endearing as authenticity. Great post, thank you
