I am finally watching Jordan Peterson's hours-long deep-dive into the book of Genesis. The historical perception and association of beings & objects (like serpents), interpretations of the observed world, and distillation of stories into their purest, most useful elements (cutting any and all fat away) that Jordan describes really makes these ancient stories come to life. Even as an Evangelical I see these "rational"/secular interpretations of ancient text extremely useful and, even, validating of the Divine.

Another thing that pops to mind, maybe not as an alternative theory but possibly related, I just saw a recent interview with geologist Robert Schoch (on Mind the Shift youtube channel). Highly recommend it. He talks, amongst other things, about solar plasma outbursts as a cause of cataclysmic wipe-outs in the past (and future! gulp). Includes him describing in great detail the results of a lab simulation, done by a plasma physicist, of what such sun ejections hitting the Earth would LOOK like to people on earth. Lots of fascinating details, some figure-like phenomena even may have inspired some primitive stone art... but also the fact that such outbursts would show up as long-lasting auroras in the sky. So whoever was (or will be, gulp) lucky enough to survive such events would have had the privilege of witnessing the most amazing serpents and dragons dancing around the sky, blowing light and fire (and inspiring dragon-fire mythologies??)
Would be good to see the aramaic etymology - how similar is it to the hebrew?
I wonder if all the ancient peoples mythology contains stories about giants and demigods cavorting with the gods and ruling over regular humans. If so, maybe there were such large creatures who went extinct or went back to the stars.
You should try reading "The Book Of Enoch" by J.J. Hurtak. It speaks of Sagittarius as "the governing force issuing commands that educate all forms of intelligence in our local Son universe." in chapter 2-0-1. It's a hell of a read. Good luck
